Welcome to our South Mountain YMCA!

Since its founding in 1970, the South Mountain YMCA – a branch of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges – is proud to be a hub of its community. Today, from our location on the Maplewood-South Orange town line, we serve the residents of South Orange, Maplewood, as well as some neighboring areas of West Orange. We are proud to be one of the largest providers of childcare, summer day camp and youth sports programs in our area.

The West Parker Center, our 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art childcare center, serves our youth and families through its 12 classrooms and an after-school program center including computer stations and a game room. Additional facilities on our property include South Mountain’s gymnasium and main office, as well as an outdoor deck and large, attractive playground that are screened by tall hedges for privacy and noise control.

South Mountain YMCA offers a number of childcare and youth programs to meet our communities’ need for these services. We design our childcare and youth programs and curricula in line with the Y’s philosophy of building the sprit, mind, and body. Programs are designed to promote physical, emotional, social, and educational growth in the children we serve. All Child Care programs are licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health. Our hours of operation are designed to meet both children’s and youth’s developmental and social/recreational needs, and working parents’ needs for extended hours of operations (both early and late).  Our website, www.smountainymca.org  is continually updated with the latest program information and events, allowing you to register for programs and check information at your convenience.

-    before and after school School-Age Child Care for the Elementary Schools in our School District

-    volunteer opportunities 
-    outreach and collaborations

Did you know… that the South Mountain YMCA distributed over $250,000 in financial assistance last year which benefited over 400 children and families in need.

Did you know… in our last completed Community Wide Survey, our branch scored in the top 10% of the country for staff relationships with members and percentage of member donors.

Did you know… our South Mountain YMCA is involved with several community collaborations including: South Orange/Maplewood After School Program, South Orange/Maplewood Kiwanis, South Orange Rotary, Maplewood Chamber of Commerce and Maplewood Recreation Department.

Did you know ... that 900 children attend our School-age Care and Early Childhood Learning Center programs at numerous locations throughout Maplewood and South Orange.
