Mission Impact / Community Benefits

As a Branch of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges the South Mountain YMCA is part of a powerful Association of members, volunteers and staff who are joined together by a shared passion to strengthen the foundation of the communities we serve.  The YMCA is dedicated to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility which, ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.  Serving more than 163,000 members and program participants throughout the state of New Jersey the  Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges has the long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise, but to deliver, lasting personal and social change.

the South Mountain YMCA also provided our facilities to these organizations:
Community Special Needs Groups, Maplewood Recreation Department, Local PTA groups, JESPY House, South Orange Recreation Department, and Orange Orphan Society.

During 2009 the South Mountain YMCA was a partner in these community events:
Family Fun Day, Healthy Kids Day, Haunted Manor, Tricky Tray, Family Olympics, Community Youth Forum, New Resident Event-Maplewood, and South Orange 5K Run.

practice Through our YMCA Mission, Vision, Values the South Mountain YMCA was part of building a healthier community with:
Parents, Children-infants to teens, 7th Grade Memberships, Diverse Community, Seniors, Health Seekers, Families in Financial Need, and Young Leaders.

The South Mountain YMCA also provided free community programs that included the following activities:
Pioneering Healthier Communities
CATCH After School Activities
Senior Fitness Classes at Assisted Living facilities.
