Our Message

Dear South Mountain YMCA community:

Here at the South Mountain YMCA, it is our mission to support our community and members by keeping in mind three important duties; provide quality services, which are affordable and make a strong impact.

We continue to offer the very highest quality programs by providing an environment that is both safe and supportive of our members’ pursuit of health and well being. Our classes and child care programs will be taught and led in such a manner as to assure that along with skills, practice and care, we also promote our YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We invest in the quality of our staff and leadership not only through continual trainings and seminars, but through the expectation that they build relationships and the feeling of community within our Y and not “just do their job”. We are very proud that in our surveys we rank in the top 10% of YMCA’s nationwide in this trait. With quality as our top priority, we know that means we need to always listen to our members and community, and continue to strive to be the very best that we can be.

Especially during these economic times, affordability and good value are essential. We create our programs and run our services with every effort to offer the best competitively priced programs without sacrificing our quality. We have been increasing the number of free programs and events for members, as well as responding to needs within our community. Even when our efforts toward affordability are not enough, the South Mountain YMCA makes sure that no one is turned away because of their inability to pay. We provide financial assistance and program support to the children and families in our community. In times of sudden hardship or change, we will provide whatever stability we can to ensure that the children remain feeling safe and secure. Last year alone we were able to help over 75 families with over $185,000 in assistance with money raised within our community - for our community!

For more than 160 years, the YMCA has made an impact nation-wide with its support of families and individuals in both good times and bad. We here, at the South Mountain YMCA, make a daily impact in the fight against the increasing epidemic levels of obesity and chronic diseases with our CATCH and Gulick initiatives - both of which emphasis good nutrition, regular daily activity and family participation. We make a daily impact for families that have found themselves in financial distress, by ensuring they are able to continue their child care and programs. We are also pleased with the impact that we have made with our 10 Summer Camps – with over 93% of our campers reporting either an Excellent or Good experience. We as an organization, and as a member of this community, will continue to seek new ways to make a positive impact on our employees, our members and our community.

So much of what you will read in the coming pages is built from these three tenets of quality, affordability, and impact. Thank you for allowing us to be your partner in your family’s health and well-being and thank you for supporting your YMCA.
