South Mountain YMCA - Open Positions

 Camp Staff Positions---South Mountain YMCA Day Camps

Do you have what it takes to instill positive values in youngsters while teaching them new skills and watching them grow before your eyes?  The South Mountain YMCA offers 14 different summer camps for 9 weeks between the dates of June 27-August 26, 2011.  Daily hours range between 7am-7pm for both Full and Part Time Positions.    Working at summer camp is an extremely demanding job, but the rewards are great!  Only caring young adults with a love and proven ability to work with children need apply.  All camp staff will be required to follow the YMCA core values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility.
 
The YMCA’s recruitment process includes comprehensive training and extensive background checks.  Many of our camps are ACA Accredited and require at least 30 hours of pre-camp training held on nights and weekends in during late May and in the month of June as well as weekly staff meetings.  All trainings and certification costs are provided by the YMCA.

We are seeking applicants for the following positions:

JUNIOR COUNSELORS (16-18 yrs)  (maybe 15 with CIT experience)
This position will assist Senior Counselors and Program Specialists to provide positive leadership for campers.   Volunteer or work experience with children required.  Must be willing and able to get into the water to assist in swim lessons daily after being trained by YMCA lifeguard staff.

SENIOR COUNSELORS (18 yrs and older)  
Responsibilities include: supervising Junior Counselors and camper groups, implementing day-to-day activities, assist in the planning of special events and camp activities, leading daily swim lessons, communicating concerns and issues to parents and directors.

CAMP SPECIALISTS (18 yrs and older)  
Do you have a special area of interest that you would love to share with children?  Camp Specialists are responsible for planning activities around themes for each week of camp already chosen, leading these activities with camper groups and overseeing other camp staff while in their classes.  We are in need of program leaders that have knowledge of and passion to teach the following:

                - Sports                           - Music

- Arts/Crafts                   - Games

- Cooking                       - Dance

- World Life                    - Environmental Awareness

- Drama

P/T AFTER CAMP CARE SUPERVISOR and COUNSELORS  (18 yrs and older)   

These are part time positions in the afternoon hours monitoring children after their camp day while leading activities of interest in a Club Time atmosphere such as: Jump Rope, Cheerleading, Music Games, Art, Skits, Sports, Outdoor Play, Quiet Games, Cartooning, Magic Sewing, Poetry, Inventions, Origami, Yoga, Jewelry, Acting, etc. 

SWIM INSTRUCTORS (15 yrs and older)  
These are Part Time Positions assisting camper groups with swim lessons in the early part of the camp day.  Our YMCA Lifeguard Staff train and assist our staff in leading swim lessons.  You must have the desire to encourage campers to learn to be comfortable in the water and then progress into good swimmers.  Our campers are swim-tested and placed into swim level groups while in the pool to assure campers are being challenged appropriately to become better swimmers. 

TEEN TRAVEL COUNSELORS (college graduates preferred)
Do you love to work with pre-teens and have prior camp experience?  This camp travels all over NJ to venues such as Great Adventure, Dorney Park, Bowling, NJ Shore Areas, ice skating, Mountain Creek, Lake Hopatcong and has an overnight trip during each 3-week session of camp.  Responsibilities will include: the safety and responsibility of campers on all trips, planning camp activities during non-trip days, team-building projects, swim instruction and safety, and community service projects.

We offer a variety of classes each season and are always looking for talented and dedicated staff members to lead these classes in a fun and positive manner.  Hours vary due to scheduling of classes and special events.  If you have a program idea, we would love to hear from you as well.

Before School Care Staff
Assist children with activities while providing positive leadership.  Volunteer or work experience with children required.  These are part time positions and candidates must be willing and able to work Monday-Friday in the early morning.  The South Mountain YMCA offers this program at Clinton, Marshall, South Mountain, Seth Boyden and Tuscan Elementary schools from 7:15-the start of the school day.
